Astrometry

Astrometry is a native port of astrometry.net system, web service server and macOS GUI wrapper. It is tightly coupled with AstroImager or AstroDSLR and their image solving feature, but you can use it as a standalone application as well.

Compared to full astrometry.net package this port is slightly simplified. It doesn't use any python scripts and 3rd party image conversion programs, so it accepts only FITS files and doesn't produce any plots.

To make it running

  • download the disc image to any convenient location and mount it,
  • drag & drop the Astrometry icon to the Applications folder to install the engine and GUI to your machine, open the Applications folder, find and execute the Astrometry application to start the GUI and embedded web service server,
  • when executed for the first time, Index Manager window is shown, select index files you want to install and click Download/Remove button,
  • click Solve button on Solver window to process any local FITS file,
  • or select Use local service in matching build of AstroImager anywhere in your local network,
  • open Index Manager and download or remove another index files anytime later, read this README to use proper index files for your imaging setup.

The astrometry engine is based on astrometry.net 0.84 and cfitsio 3.450. The source code of the wrapper and embedded server is available on GitHub.

To run Astrometry you need Mac running macOS Sierra or later.
